[[!tag debian rant]]

Imagine a conversation where some people would like to try to make Debian better, and several people say things like this:

as soon as you make this particular change, I will stop using Debian and all my customers will stop using Debian too

Quite a number of different possible responses pop up in my head immediately.

  • you're trying to blackmail us; we're better off without you, regardless of who you or your customers are
  • you're about four years old
  • you're delusional: Debian is too hard a habit to get rid of, so you're going to be using Debian anyway, regardless of what we do

More seriously: should this kind of behavior be acceptable on the Debian mailing lists? Not only is it insulting and anti-social, but trying to influence purely technical decisions by threats is not going to make Debian better.
